CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
At Hess Preschool, our curriculum is built on a clear belief: children learn best when they feel engaged, supported, and encouraged to explore. Designed for ages 18 months to six years, our approach blends bilingual thematic learning, hands-on experiences, and structured academic guidance to nurture the whole child socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically.

PROGRAMME OVERVIEW
PLAYGROUP
(18-30 MONTHS)
Our Playgroup programme introduces toddlers to a nurturing setting where early routines, exploration, and social interactions unfold naturally. Children engage in hands-on experiences that build motor skills, early language, and awareness of the world around them. Through simple group activities, rhymes, movement, and sensory play, toddlers gain the confidence to participate, communicate, and adjust to the preschool environment.
NURSERY 1
(2–3 YEARS OLD)
In Nursery 1, children begin developing independence while engaging in experiences that stretch their curiosity and thinking. Early literacy and numeracy are introduced through pre-phonics activities, stories, songs, and the CPA approach. Project explorations encourage children to question, observe, and collaborate. This stage builds essential habits such as listening, sharing, and expressing ideas, laying the groundwork for structured learning ahead.
NURSERY 2
(3–4 YEARS OLD)
Nursery 2 deepens children’s academic readiness through structured phonics, early writing, and hands-on numeracy using manipulatives and the CPA method. Story-based discussions in English and Chinese expand vocabulary and communication skills. As children participate in theme-based projects, they learn to organise ideas, work in groups, and apply concepts across subjects. Throughout the year, they also build independence, caring for their belongings, completing tasks, and contributing confidently during class routines.
KINDERGARTEN 1
(4–5 YEARS OLD)
Kindergarten 1 builds on the foundations from earlier years by strengthening independence, organisational habits, and early problem-solving skills. Children participate in theme-based and project-based experiences that broaden their understanding of the world, encouraging them to think critically and express ideas confidently. With growing literacy, numeracy, and communication abilities, they learn to collaborate, ask questions, and manage classroom routines, preparing them for the academic expectations of Kindergarten 2.
KINDERGARTEN 2
(5–6 YEARS OLD)
Kindergarten 2 builds on the foundations formed in earlier years, guiding children toward Primary School with stronger literacy, numeracy, and communication skills. They master all 42 letter sounds through the Jolly Phonics programme and apply reading and writing skills with increasing independence. Mathematics progresses through the CPA approach, covering number bonds, addition and subtraction within 10, and place value to 40. Social-emotional learning remains central as children practise empathy, teamwork, and responsibility.

What is the teacher-to-child ratio in each age group?
Our teacher-to-child ratios are carefully designed to support each age group’s developmental needs. In our Playgroup, we maintain a ratio of 1 teacher for every 6 children, while Nursery 1 has a 1:7 ratio and Nursery 2 has a 1:10 ratio. As children grow, our Kindergarten 1 and Kindergarten 2 classes have ratios of 1:11 and 1:12, respectively, ensuring a supportive environment at every stage of your child’s learning journey.
Do you offer a sibling discount?
We offer a 10% sibling discount to families with two or more children enrolled at Hess Preschool. This discount is applied monthly to the tuition of the older child or the child with the lower monthly fee.
How does Hess Preschool communicate with parents?
At Hess Preschool, we use the Taidii App to keep parents informed and engaged.
Real-Time Updates: Parents receive notifications about their child’s arrival and departure, outings, nappy changes, sleep times, meals, and any accidents. In the case of an accident, we will call you immediately for transparency and update the app accordingly.
Weekly Summaries: Child-specific updates are shared weekly, summarising how the week went and outlining the activities your child participated in.
Parent-Teacher Meetings: We conduct meetings twice a year to discuss your child’s development, milestones achieved, and the next steps for their learning journey.
This system ensures that parents are always connected and informed about their child’s experiences and progress at Hess Preschool.
Can we visit the school before enrolling?
Absolutely! We warmly invite families to visit our campus for a personalised tour. During your visit, you’ll get the chance to explore our classrooms, learn about our approach and programmes, and experience our preschool environment firsthand.
Is there a registration fee or deposit to secure a spot for my child?
Yes, to secure your child’s spot, a deposit of one month’s school fees is required. Additionally, there is a non-refundable administration fee for each reservation.
