Nursery 2

INTRODUCTION

Designed for Children in the Year They Turn Four

In Nursery 2, children continue their learning journey, building important academic, social, and emotional skills. Through hands-on activities and meaningful play, we encourage critical thinking, teamwork, and creative expression. Our curriculum develops stronger literacy and numeracy skills whilst incorporating project-based learning, problem-solving, and storytelling that children love.

Throughout the year, children grow more confident and independent in our supportive classroom environment. They learn to concentrate for longer periods, take care of their belongings, and complete tasks with less help from teachers. By the end of Nursery 2, children have developed the skills, confidence, and friendships needed for a successful transition to kindergarten.

CURRICULUM HIGHLIGHTS

CORE LEARNING AREAS

Phonics, Literacy and Writing

Building on strong pre-phonics foundations, Nursery 2 children begin learning letter-sound relationships through Jolly Phonics, our systematic synthetic phonics programme. They develop early reading and writing skills in a structured, engaging way.

Enjoying Stories and Books

Interactive story sessions in both Chinese and English help children develop communication skills, expand vocabulary, and understand grammar structures. Children explore books together, building language proficiency through engaging discussions.

Numeracy

Our hands-on numeracy programme uses the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) approach with manipulatives to build mathematical foundations. Children develop number recognition and counting skills (0-10), explore part-whole relationships and compare quantities within 10, learn addition and subtraction through stories and manipulatives (within 5), and strengthen pattern skills by creating and extending AB, ABB and ABC sequences.

Learning Through Themes and Projects

Nursery 2 children explore themes that connect art, mathematics, science, and language through captivating topics and hands-on project work. These engaging experiences help children make meaningful connections across different learning areas.
